Online articles lead to rapid scientific consensus, forgotten ideas
Matt Ford discusses James Evans study, published in the current issue of Science, on the effect the availability of online articles on how researchers cite previous work and how the recent explosion of online access to articles affects this behavior. Interestingly, he found that the prolific number of articles available almost instantaneously via the Web has actually resulted in a smaller pool of articles being referenced in the scientific literature.
