The ability to access the drive is I think different from how the OS uses that drive.
For instance about a year ago there was a lot of concern of using Ubuntu on laptops because it really causes them to seek a lot of data and will 1) shorten your drive life and 2) use up your battery quickly.
Would you say the laptop manufacturer should have a special driver for Ubuntu to pass off the extra seeks into a special onboard ram? Or would you say Ubuntu should just adjust how it uses the drive because it is not using it optimally as an OS?
I think the same applies to Microsoft. SSDs have a different set of rules and should be accessed using different methods than hard drives.

Must say I don't feel this way. My hypothesis is that as economies weaken or strengthen there is a need for IT personnel. When they weaken it is b/c companies begin looking to squeeze efficiencies out of their processes - and this is oftentimes best handled by a knowledgeable IT person.

Interesting article. Cell phones are great - but I'll consider purchasing a headset and am using Skype on my PC a lot more now that the laptop has a built-in microphone.

The ecosystem of Yahoo will be an interesting stage to watch with Icahn involved. The seasoned member of multiple boards could prove an intriguing speed bump for the company.

This has been a concern and a subject of research among many physicians for quite a few years now. I have followed Dr. Mercola's concerns over this issue for years and unfortunately believe that Dr. Herberman's hypotheses will be proven true in the future. Cell phones are a wonderful entity, but I personally believe it is wise to limit their use and to use headsets and other preventive measures to avoid overexposure and the potential health risks. We feel invincible, but we are not, and as the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Seems like building drivers is the hardware manufacturer's responsibility though? I know Microsoft does, but no use complaining that Microsoft hasn't created them when it is your job.

I actually side with Sandisk here. SSD is a different type of harddrive and should have drivers optimized for flash instead of being optimized for a normal harddrive. Why build legacy hardware on to SSDs to support inadequate operating systems? It makes no sense and only slows down overall I/O.

How does it know what engine to use though? Like dave said, ietab allows us to use either engine in firefox, no use for Sleipnir here.

Well.. I must say, Sleipnir has great chance in Japan market, if it has great support for Japanese language and people.

mmm...ietab for firefox anyone?

In my opinion, COPA is an example of useless paperwork. I'm glad it has been overturned. I hope it stays that way. Not b/c I am against protecting our children, but because COPA in no ways helps with this. There is no reasonable way to verify the identity of minors, which means minors can register and claim to be over eighteen (and do so all the time!). Look at social networks like Facebook and MySpace. One creates a legal mire with no practical benefits.

Will jobs be lost over social media? Absolutely. But one cannot stop the future any more than one can stop the flow of the tide. Individuals in positions that may be crowd-sourced need to begin considering how they can take advantage of this new crowd-sourced dynamic - as many new jobs will be created by this shift as well.

Okay...now that is a little confusing. MindTouch Deki Kilen Woods. I almost didn't look at the article b/c of the title. I wouldn't recommend making almost every word in the release of your new application non-intuitive. Still, it sounds like a pretty interesting concept if you can get past the name.

An absolutely fascinating article. SF needs to be careful as they may find Childs elevated in the eyes of some to Mitnick or even the illustrious Robin Hood.

Network Magic is a beautiful application - though unfortunately aimed at consumers and very small businesses. Still, here's hoping Cisco can learn a bit from Pure Networks. Their software while much improved is still a bit obtuse.

I agree, and this isn't the first outage Amazon has suffered either. But with out-sourcing I don't think I'd ever rely fully on a single hosted solution. Using multiple serves as a failsafe mechanism for the inevitable day when a companies' servers do fail.

I agree...more than one case has been botched by individuals in labs failing to correctly operate there equipment or tests.

Shouldn't Amazon already have multiple fail-safe devices? I think in this day having any outage of internet services for a large company is highly embarrassing.

I think this is probably a good thing. You don't want some fool dinking around with the system and messing it up so that the case can't be prosecuted.
