Over 6,000 people attended the Gartner's Symposium/ITxpo 2008 conference Monday. Discussion on the on the economy included advice "to prepare for was the worst,from a manager's standpoint: hiring freezes and possibly even layoffs." Late last month Gartner, which said in a report that it didn't expect a recession in tech spending, but now is predicting "that overall spending will grow 3 percent year over year during the current quarter and then increase 2.3 percent next year — a reduction from its previous projections.
